Master Huy Phan has over 20 years Martial Arts experience in Taekwondo and over 15 years teaching experience with kids and adults. He is a certified Master Instructor in Taekwondo Martial Arts with the World Taekwondo Federation and Taekwondo Federation of BC. Master Huy is also a 5 time B.C. Provincial Taekwondo Champion.

Master Vieng
Master Instructor / BJJ Instructor
Master Vieng has practiced Taekwonodo for years and assists with our Youth Intermediate/Advanced classes. As of Sept 2014, Master Vieng will be leading the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class at Tri-City Taekwondo. Master Vieng is currently a brown belt, four stripes with over 12 years of training in jiu-jitsu and will be the first Master-Professor in British Columbia.

Allan Gallang
Krav Maga Instructor
Allan is our Krav Maga specialist at Tri-City Taekwondo and has over 8 years of experience in the military grade self defence system. Growing up in richmond BC, Allan decided to join martial arts to gain self defence knowledge, along with building overall confidence in life and during dangerous situations. Allan’s favourite techniques to teach are gun and knife defence for their diversity and speed! Allan believes the most important aspect of martial arts training is the focus of evolving over all as a human being. Building character, self dignity and the confidence to overcome obstacles which many people mite believe is impossible to do. Becoming a leader first for your self, then for those around you. In the Israeli Krav International Association (IKI) he has achieved brown belt status.

Instructor Kamal
Senior Instructor
Instructor Kamal Grew up in Cairo, Egypt and is one of 3 children. at the tender age of 4, Instructor Kamal decided to follow in the footsteps of his siblings and join Taekwondo, and has never looked back! He has been practicing for a total of 19 years and is a second Dan Black Belt. Kamal thrives in seeing his students improve and grow through conditioning and inspiration! He enjoys teaching the Sparring Class at Tri-City Taekwondo due to his life-long passion for the sport. The fast action and every changing class keeps all of the students and instructors engaged and on their toes. Instructor Kamal believes that the most important aspect of Martial Arts is building confidence. No matter what your physical ability is, confidence is something that is irreplaceable!

Instructor Serg
Senior Instructor
Instructor Serg grew up in the Philippines and moved to Canada when he was 8 years old. Being the eldest of 3 children, Serg has always been the protector, so naturally he was drawn to Martial Arts. he has been practicing Taekwondo for over 10 years and is a second degree Blackbelt. HIs initial interest in Taekwondo was focused around Sparring and has been very successful in competing in this category over the years. Instructor Serg enjoys teaching breakfalls, advanced kicks, tricks and flips. He is currently doing Parkour training outside of martial arts to improve his agility. Instructor Serg choreographs and trains with the Demonstration Team at Tri-City Taekwondo, which is a martial arts performance group. Serg believes that the overall values of Martial Arts are definitely the most important thing he has learnt over the years. Martial arts teaches it’s students to be humble, to persevere and never give up when it’s tough. As well as compassion and understanding. Most importantly, Taekwondo teaches respect in regards of respecting others, yourself and everything around you.

Instructor Ryan has been with Tri-City Taekwondo since Master Phan first started the business in 2011. Instructor Ryan has a great positive energy which helps make our dojang feel like a second home to many of our students. Instructor Ryan is currently a student at Simon Fraser University studying Criminology which follows his passion of helping people and creating a safer community.

Instructor McDaniel

Instructor McDaniel grew up in Mabasa Dupatta del Norte Nueva Vizcaya in the Philippines. His little brother is a huge motivator for McDaniel’s training, as he works had to be the best role model for him he can be. Instructor McDaniel was 7 when he started Taekwondo, and has been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the past year. He is a First Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo and White Belt in BJJ. As a child, McDaniel idolized superheros such as Power Rangers and Dragon Ball Z, and when he was old enough he decided to join Martial Arts as an attempt to be like his Hero’s! He loves keeping the younger children engaged in class with fun nd fast Taekwondo Games! He is known around the school as the ‘Flying Instructor’ due to his ability to jump extremely high with ease!

Instructor Regan

Instructor Regan grew up in Kitsalano and has a younger sister. He first became intrigued with martial arts at 13 years old. The aspect of learning how to defend himself was a major appeal but what pulled him towards Taekwondo was the detailed and focused fighting style and high level kicking. Regan is currently a red belt and has been practicing towards his blackbelt with every class he teaches and attends. Regan’s passion has always been the teaching kicking because of it’s physical toughness and how it keeps the students interested and engaged. Regan believes that the most important aspect of martial arts training is giving it your all. There is no cheat code or short cut to become the best. Only hard work and dedication can move you towards achieving your goals.

Instructor Jae Yun
Assistant Instructor
Instructor Jae was born in South Korea, and moved with his family to various Canadian cities such as Winnipeg, Calgary, and finally relocating to Coquitlam. He is the youngest of two children and has a close relationship with his older sister. Jae believes that family is extremely important and maintains a strong, healthy relationship with his close and extended family. Instructor Jae initially started Taekwondo as a 5 year old, growing up in Korea and reached his Red Belt before moving to Canada and starting the process again, back in 2010. Restarting Taekwondo in Canada was a choice he made not only to maintain physical fitness, but also to help build character and disciplinary skills that he deemed as extremely valuable. Jae enjoys teaching the younger students Poomsae due to the importance of learning how to manage and control their high levels of energy and to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. He enjoys seeing each young martial artist giving their Poomsae their own unique flare and he takes pride in seeing them progress. He is currently a 1st degree Black Belt and is constantly working towards moving up and improving his Martial Arts skills.
